城大於4月26日公佈首批獲HK Tech 300天使基金投資的初創公司名單，共有49間分別涵蓋生物和健康科技、深科技、資訊科技及人工智能、以及金融科技等範疇的初創公司，各獲得最高達港幣100萬元的天使基金投資。
由城大聯合領導的國際團隊研發出新技術，可將反式鈣鈦礦太陽能電池的效率大幅提升至25%，這是一個新紀錄，有助促進鈣鈦礦太陽能電池商業化。

CityU's Centre for Electronic Packaging and Assemblies, Failure Analysis and Reliability Engineering (EPA) was accredited for the third time by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service, in June 2004.
In a further push into the mainland China market, a five-member delegation from CityU visited Wuhan in the province of Hubei , 5-8 July 2004.
