Prof. SIT Wing-hang Alfred, GBS, JP

 

Biography

Prof. SIT Wing-hang Alfred, GBS, JP joined the Government in 1984 and was promoted to the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services and General Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund in 2017, responsible for electrical and mechanical safety as well as energy efficiency and conservation in Hong Kong and provision of engineering services to the electrical and mechanical assets of the Hong Kong SAR government with an annual turnover of more than HK$8 billion, concurrently to help leverage innovation and technology (I&T) development in Hong Kong and nurture smart and green city initiatives. Prof. Sit was appointed the Secretary for Innovation and Technology during the period April 2020 to June 2022. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government to recognize his distinguished services to the community and he is now a Justice of Peace.  

 

Prof. Sit is now a Senior Advisor to the President and Vice -Chancellor of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Advisor of the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research and Honorary Professor of the Hong Kong Baptist University. He is also the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Professor of Practice of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Prof. Sit is an electrical engineer by profession and has over 40 years of experience in public administration. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was the President of the Hong Kong Institution of Facility Management, Chairman of the Biomedical Division and Secretary of the Nuclear Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

 

About the Talk

It is stipulated clearly in the “National 14th-5 Year Plan” that Hong Kong will be developed as an international innovation and technology hub and the Hong Kong SAR Government has demonstrated unprecedented strong commitment to take forward this important mission. The speaker will share his views about the initiatives put forward by the Government and the achievements so far and discuss the possible way forward.
