CityU take significant strides forward in consolidating and building upon themes set forth in our Strategic Plan 2015–2020, such as discovery and innovation, interdisciplinarity, global partnerships, knowledge transfer, and world-class governance and branding.
CityU’s strong performance in international ranking exercises represented the culmination of a continuous emphasis on scholarly knowledge and an excellent education and research environment for faculty and students. It is also a testament to the “soulware” factor embedded in CityU’s contributions to society and higher education through the integration of teaching and research. CityU ranks 54th in the world according to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) for 2023, and is the 4th best university in the world under 50 years of age according to QS for 2021.
First and the only veterinary school in Hong Kong
The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, serves as a leading local and regional centre of excellence in research and training. The College has launched the first 6-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme in Asia designed to meet strenuous international accreditation standards.
CityU faculty attracted significant sums from different funding agencies for their research projects. In 2020/21, we received over HK$2,500 million in external research funding. Our research is so strong that CityU is now ranked 1st in citations per faculty in Hong Kong, according to the QS World University Rankings averaged over a 5-year period from 2017 to 2021.
We welcome applications to CityU through the International Admissions Scheme/Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme if you are applying on the strength of qualifications other than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) or mainland China’s National University Entrance Examination (NUEE/Gaokao), regardless of whether you are studying in Hong Kong or overseas.
CityU offers a wide range of full-time and part-time taught postgraduate programmes, from one to three years in length. We operate a semester system and candidates' academic progress is usually assessed through a combination of written examinations and project assessments throughout the year .

Johnny Lau Chun-leung was awarded two sports scholarships this year, namely the Mr Herman Hu Outstanding Sports Scholarships and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Science Sports Awards.
As a Student Ambassador alumna, Elaine strongly encourages CityU students to be proactive and enjoy various activities at the university.
