Event:            “Hong Kong Water Governance” symposium
Date:               13 June 2014 (Friday)
Time:               9:15am – 5:30pm
Venue:             Room 3505, 3/F, Academic 2, City University of Hong Kong

An international symposium titled “Hong Kong Water Governance” hosted by the Department of Public Policy at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will bring together an international array of water policy experts from key regions around the world that have faced water shortage challenges. The regions represented by the academics include Singapore and the Mekong, Australia, California/Arizona, Europe and China.

The focal point of the symposium is to study how Hong Kong’s reliance on potable water from Dong River in Guangdong Province places Hong Kong in a strategically precarious position in terms of water security. The lessons drawn from around the world will supplement the water policy debate here in Hong Kong.

Highlighted topics at the event include “Introduction to Hong Kong’s Water Governance Challenges” by Dr Scott Valentine from CityU; “Water Tales of Two Cities: Hong Kong vs Singapore” by Ms Su Liu from Civic Exchange and Dr Xun Wu from the National University of Singapore; and “Insights from the US Western State and European Water Governance” by experts from the US and Europe; among others.

The symposium will be conducted in English with Chinese language support.
