The Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is staging a symposium titled “Interrogating gendered power structures: Developing a transformative research framework for women’s empowerment in Muslim contexts” on    25 February.

 

Topics to be discussed are:

l   Why women’s empowerment in Muslim contexts?

l   Indigenous feminism as a locus for development?

l   Researching with a transformative agenda: the challenge of producing knowledge for action

l   Women on women: exploring the possibilities of a feminist ethnography in Pakistan

The symposium is organised in collaboration with key partners from Pakistan, Indonesia and the UK’s University of Oxford from within the Research Programme Consortium on Women’s Empowerment in Muslim Contexts (WEMC). WEMC is a five-year multi-country research programme led by SEARC to help fight the poverty and inequality experienced by women living in Muslim communities and countries.
