TechExpo 2001, the Division of Computer Studies' two-day extravaganza featuring 55 special projects of graduating students, was launched 11 May before an audience of more than 150 professionals, academics and students.

The Expo was opened by Mr Peter Lo, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Professor Edmond I Ko, Vice-President (Education) of CityU, Professor H K Wong, Principal of the College of Higher Vocational Studies of CityU, Mr Chau Wai Man, General Manager, Group Information Technology Division of Dah Chong Hong, Ltd and Ms Becky Ng, Chief Marketing Officer of iCare.com Ltd.

"I am honoured to be here today and meet some of the brightest minds in Hong Kong," said Mr Lo in his welcoming address. "Such applied R&D is becoming an increasingly important factor for Hong Kong's success. I would like to applaud CityU for nurturing such talent--keep up the good work."

 

 

TechExpo 2001, which ran until 12 May, showcased the work of graduating Computer Studies students.The expo demonstrated students' aptitude in applying their computer knowledge in real life situations.

Many projects displayed at TechExpo were suggested by sponsoring organizations. Students made full use of their computer science skills to design software applications and provide hardware solutions to solve specific problems.

 

 

The results of the Project of the Year competition were announced at the Opening Ceremony of TechExpo. Industry leaders formed the panel of judges. The winning projects were:

 

 

Champion
Sales Automation, which improves sales operations by providing salespeople working outdoors with access to database information at office servers

1st Runner-up
e-Voting System, which provides a secure platform for voting Student Project Management System (SPMS), which streamlines and facilitates the better management of student projects

 

 

2nd Runner-up
SKH.com Computerized Management System, a computerized management system aimed to improve work efficiency at the Hong Kong SKH Nursing Home

 

 

The exhibition was held in the Multi-purpose Rooms, 4/F, Amenities Building, at City University.
