CityU launches new entrance scholarships for talented local students

A new entrance scholarship scheme aimed at attracting high-performing local students has been launched by City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

The “CityU Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents” target students applying for government-funded undergraduate programmes through JUPAS and non-JUPAS. The scholarship awards will cover up to four years of study and up to more than the full tuition cost of attending CityU in value.

Hong Kong students with excellent HKDSE or GCE “A” Level / IB results applying to bachelor’s degree programmes at CityU for first-year entry or Advanced Standing I entry are eligible.

Recipients of the scholarships will enjoy global experience through overseas exchanges, work attachments, academic mentorship and personal development guidance.

“The scholarships reward academic excellence and nurture students with whole-person development and overseas experience,” said Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs) of CityU.

“CityU provides students with a professional education that not only prepares them for a quickly evolving, globalised world, but also encourages them to contribute to society through their learning and research,” Professor Ip added.

Under the scholarships, HKDSE students who attain 4 subjects or more with 5** and Level 4 or above in either Chinese or English will be offered an admission award of $60,000 that is renewable annually based on satisfactory progress toward the degree. The other criteria and award values for JUPAS entrants and local non-JUPAS entrants are listed in table 1 and table 2, respectively, in the appendix.

Scholarship recipients will also be eligible for a scholarship worth $25,000 to cover a semester-based outbound exchange study.

In addition, the recipients will be provided with an opportunity for work experience through CityU’s Global Work Attachment Programme, a dedicated academic mentorship, and early engagement in academic research as part of CityU’s unique Discovery-enriched Curriculum.

The scholarships emphasise whole-person development and recipients will be provided with membership to the Golden Key Club, a platform for developing strong bonds among scholarship recipients that in turn can strengthen career development, provide leadership training and offer wider exposure in university and community activities.

What’s more, recipients will be introduced to the Servant Leadership Training Programme, a platform that encourages students to engage with society and serve others.

Residency in student hostels will also be provided for the very top scholarship recipients for their first year of study.
