Celebrating the Lunar New Year in traditional style

Students from different countries experienced Chinese culture and tradition and celebrated the arrival of the Year of Goat together at a Lunar New Year Bazaar on 16 February at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

The event, co-organised by the Mainland and External Affairs Office and the International Friends Club, featured Chinese traditional food, calligraphy writing, dumpling making and traditional games such as diabolo juggling and shuttlecock kicking. It provided an opportunity for students of all backgrounds to embrace traditional Chinese customs.

Students were excited to have a chance to don traditional Chinese costume, taste traditional Chinese cuisine, and write their New Year wishes using Chinese writing tools. They even tested their cooking talent by trying to make dumplings. Added to these were booths for making Chinese knots and paper cutting. The bazaar was filled with fun and laughter.

Professor Way Kuo, University President, Dr Raymond Chan Kwok-hong, Dean of Students, Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations) and Dr Wong Chi-tim, Director of Student Development Services, joined the celebration and handed out red packets for good luck and fortune.
