CityU President shares insights on higher education in CMA channel
Professor Freddy Boey, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), shared his insights on nurturing talent, technology transfer and entrepreneurship in a wide-ranging interview conducted by Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, Court member of CityU, Member of the Board of Governors and Honorary Vice-President of CityU Foundation; and President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA).
In the interview, which was featured on CMA’s multi-media channel, Hashtag CMA, President Boey highlighted the news that CityU’s Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme recently obtained accreditation from regulatory bodies in the United Kingdom and Australia/New Zealand, making it the first dual-accredited veterinary programme in Asia. He said he was proud of the achievement and emphasised that CityU’s BVM students gained solid knowledge about not only animal welfare, but also food safety.
President Boey also introduced the newly established CityU Academy of Innovation, which focuses on deep-tech venture creation and aims to develop a leading international ecosystem that nurtures young entrepreneurs. “In addition to conducting top-notch research, technology transfer is important,” he said. “We are dedicated to incubating deep-tech start-ups and promoting university-industry collaboration. Encouraging young people to launch start-ups can also help create job opportunities and further multiply the number of entrepreneurs.”
In addition, President Boey expressed his vision of encouraging students to become global citizens, saying that everyone can be a “hero” at CityU, including those who help others in need. He pointed out that the role of a university is to inspire students to learn in different ways, and that they need experience and networks to become future leaders. Therefore, President Boey attaches great importance to overseas exchanges, which provide opportunities for students to address problems and seek new knowledge.
