City University of Hong Kong Chengdu Research Institute (CityUCRI) participated in the 3rd Western China International Fair Import & Export Expo on 20 September, showcasing a project by the Centre for Innovative Applications of Virtual Reality Technologies (ViRtech Centre).

Mr Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the Communist Party of the China Sichuan Provincial Committee, visited the Expo and had a trial use of the CityU project named “QBrush”.

QBrush has been developed by the Centre for Innovative Applications of Internet and Multimedia Technologies, CityU. It allows an artist paint in three-dimensional space, while the audiences can see both the painting and the artist’s movement in real time on semi-transparent screens, providing a unique mixed reality experience for creative arts shared between the artist and audiences.

The ViRtech Centre of CityUCRI was invited for the second time by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu (CDETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to be part of CDETO’s booth in a large-scale trade fair in Chengdu. Being the highlight of CDETO’s booth, QBrush displays CityU’s strengths in research on cutting-edge interactive media technology.
