City University of Hong Kong (CityU) maintained a strong presence at the QS WorldClass conference in Taipei, Taiwan, from 29 to 31 March.

Now in its 10th anniversary, the QS conference gathers together prominent leaders in higher education.

CityU President Professor Way Kuo was invited to deliver the keynote speech at the three-day event. The speech, titled “The Soulware in Higher Education”, outlines his unique vision for higher education by looking into the essence of education.

Professor Kuo urged the audience to take time out to reflect on what is best for our students in a fast-moving world.

“It is imperative to put the ‘soul’ back into today’s higher education,” said Professor Kuo. He suggested equipping students with passion and ability to learn and adapt to challenges, rather than simply learning about the technical details of specific disciplines.

Organised by QS Asia, the QS WorldClass conference is an invite-only event that sees a select group of Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Deans from around the world gather for discussion and networking.
