Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), encouraged students to emulate persons of outstanding quality and become their best during speeches he made at the graduation ceremonies of three secondary schools in late June.

Professor Kuo presented graduation certificates and various awards to students at the graduation ceremonies of Elegantia College, HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College and Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School on 25, 26 and 30 June respectively.

In his remarks to the students, Professor Kuo referred to the Chinese sage, Confucius. “More than two thousand years ago, Confucius encouraged his students to emulate persons of outstanding quality,” said Professor Kuo. “I also hope that you can emulate your classmates with outstanding performance and work hard to equal them in achieving excellent academic results.”

He went on to advise students to always keep an open mind and plan for their future based on their interests. He pointed out that most successful people who make contributions to society engage themselves in work they are really interested in. With passion, Professor Kuo said, they can dedicate themselves to their work and succeed.

Professor Kuo also pointed out that inventions such as mobile phones over the past decades have improved our quality of life. Students should have the courage to find innovative solutions for new problems in today’s world so that they can contribute to society.
