The largest ever team of runners from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) took part in this year’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.

Over 900 students, alumni, staff and dependents joined the 10-kilometre, half-marathon and full marathon on 5 February. CityU was participating for the fifth year in a row.

Professor Way Kuo, University President, running in the race for the fourth successive year, was joined by Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, participating in his first Hong Kong Marathon, in the 10 kilometre section.

“I would like to encourage every member of the CityU community to exercise regularly,” said Professor Kuo, who returned from the US just a few days ago. “Exercise enhances our thinking by improving blood circulation and strengthens our perseverance and will power.”

Professor Ellis said he felt good after the race and would do it again next year. “I love jogging and usually run once or twice a week. Exercise is essential to our daily lives,” he said.

In preparation for this year’s event, a briefing seminar and running clinics were arranged for the record number of participants. The top runners in each category of the race will receive a trophy and prize at an award presentation ceremony cum dinner party.
