The Convocation of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) held a banquet on 2 October entitled “Silver Jubilee Reminiscence” to celebrate the University’s 25th Anniversary. Nearly 20 tables were set and fully booked, and around 250 alumni and staff attended the banquet.

Among the guests were Professor Way Kuo, University President; Professor Chan Chi-hou, Acting Provost; Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Vice-President (Student Affairs); Professor Julia Tao Lai Po-wah, Acting Vice-President (Development & External Relations) and Chief-of-Staff; Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations); Dr Ellen Ko Law Yin-lan, Special Advisor to the President; Dr Ruth Yee Wing-yu, Associate Director of Student Development Services, and Billy Li On-yin, President of the Students’ Union.

Professor Kuo gave a speech, starting with the latest developments of the University, and then expressed thanks to the alumni for their support. “On behalf of the University, I thank all of you for your support over the past 25 years. Our alumni are valuable assets of the University, and I will work closely with our alumni in meeting the challenges facing us ahead,” Professor Kuo said.

Mr Patrick Lee Chung-wah, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Convocation, said the alumni would gladly join in University activities, and the Convocation had been set up for the purpose of rallying alumni support for their alma mater. “We will organise various activities to bring more alumni together and make contributions to the University’s long-term development,” said Mr Lee.

Dr Bryan Wong Siu-fai, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Convocation, shared his experience in organising the banquet. He thanked all members of the Convocation and the staff of CityU’s Alumni Relations Office for their support, making it possible for them to arrange the banquet within such a short time. He remarked that maintaining alumni relations is not an easy job and he would keep on doing his best in the future.

The joyful occasion featured performances by the CityU Chinese Orchestra, City Singers, and Magic Society, as well as a prize presentation for the “Golden Memories in CityU” Photographic Competition. All the alumni and staff present shared a memorable night together.
