CityU Council member, supporters honoured by HKSAR Government

A Council member of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and three university supporters are included in this year’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Honours List for their dedication to community service and significant contributions to Hong Kong.

Dr Chan Sui-kau, Honorary Doctor of Social Science of CityU and Founder and Executive Chairman of Yangtzekiang Garment Ltd, is to be awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in recognition of his life-long dedication to the promotion and development of the textiles and clothing industry in Hong Kong.

Mr Joseph Lee Chung-tak, current CityU Council member and Chairman of Wofoo Plastics Ltd, is to be awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) for his distinguished contribution to the development of the local manufacturing industry and for his outstanding community service, particularly in the area of youth development.

Ms Lo Kai-yin, former Council member and jewellery and accessories designer, is to be awarded the SBS in recognition of her significant contribution to the development of creative industries in Hong Kong, as well as the promotion of arts and culture at the local and international levels. Ms Lo served on CityU’s Council from 2001 to 2006.

Professor Chan Kei-biu, the University’s Distinguished Fellow and Chairman and Senior Managing Director of Surface Mount Technology (Holdings) Ltd, is to be awarded the Medal of Honour for his valuable contribution to the local electronics industry.

The Chief Executive will confer awards upon 269 people in this year’s Honours List. The presentation ceremony will be held later this year, tentatively set for October.

In addition, Mr David Fong Man-hung, current CityU Council member and Deputy Managing Director of Hip Shing Hong Group of Companies, has been appointed as Justice of the Peace.
