Cheers for CityU sports teams

 

CityU sports teams have once again scored flying colours in this year's Inter-collegiate Sports Competition: Overall Champion in the men's teams, Overall First Runner Up in the women's teams, plus championship titles in events such as athletics, badminton, basketball, soccer and table tennis. The Physical Education (PE) section of Student Development Services (SDS) held an annual prize presentation ceremony and celebration dinner on 17 April to commemorate the teams" success.

OA coach helps to develop your potential to the fullest," Vice-President (Education) and Dean of Students, Professor Edmond Ko told team members when he opened the function. "When you become your own coach and take charge of your own life, you become an adult."

Prizes won at the inter-collegiate competitions were showcased during the ceremony. To give the top-performing coaches and team members further recognition, the PE section also presented prizes to "golden coaches", "most valued athletes", "most enthusiastic athletes" and "best progressing athletes". Mrs Dorothy Davies, Mr Matthew Yip, Mr Sunny Chau, Ms Rebecca Lai, Mr Gordis Yau and Miss Winnie Wong were among the recipients of "golden coach" awards.

At an experience sharing session, Mr Roy Ngai, Senior Physical Education Officer, invited representatives of the winning teams to talk about the secrets of their success. Mr Sunny Chau, who coaches CityU's perennial winner, the badminton team, said, "Remember the spirit of "Tai Chi", which means always maintain a balance between the efforts put into practicing badminton and study.O Ms Rebecca Lai, the coach of the women's basketball team, which won their first ever championship this year, said, "It is important to care for each team member, for both their physical and mental well-being."
