CityUHK leverages internationalisation strengths to fully support Hong Kong’s First Five-Year Plan
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) welcomes the recent successful conclusion of the two month public consultation on The First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026–2030) (Hong Kong’s Five Year Plan), led by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau. Hong Kong’s Five Year Plan marks an important milestone, closely aligning with the National 15th Five Year Plan, as well as providing a forward looking vision for the city’s economic transformation, talent development and innovation.
Being named the “Most International University in the World” by Times Higher Education for three consecutive years, CityUHK actively supports the “Study in Hong Kong” brand, and the policy directions by the HKSAR Government. The University will continue to leverage its strengths in internationalised education, interdisciplinary research and innovation commercialisation, working closely with the Government, academia and industry to align fully with Hong Kong’s Five-Year Plan.
In recent years, CityUHK has established new colleges and institutes to meet contemporary needs, including the CityUHK Academy of Innovation, the Institute of Digital Medicine, the Institute for Materials Innovation, the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science, the College of Biomedicine and the College of Computing. These initiatives drive interdisciplinary development, artificial intelligence, and deep technology applications.
CityUHK has also been selected for the Government’s third InnoHK initiative, SEAM@InnoHK, and will jointly establish two centres with leading international universities: the Centre for Advanced and Smart Manufacturing with the University of Cambridge, UK and the Sustainable Materials & Advanced Renewable Technologies Centre with the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. In addition, Hong Kong’s first quantum computer will be hosted at CityUHK, providing powerful frontier computing support for innovation in the Northern Metropolis.
CityUHK will continue to build on its strengths in internationalised education, interdisciplinary research, and innovation commercialisation, fully supporting the HKSAR Government’s vision for the Five Year Plan and the development of the Northern Metropolis, while working with partners across sectors to advance Hong Kong as a global hub for education, research, and innovation. We believe that, with its unique advantage of being “backed by the Motherland and connected to the world,” HKSAR’s higher education sector is well positioned to seize future opportunities and, together with society, embrace a more prosperous future.
