City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will host the annual Scholarship and Prize Presentation Ceremony on March 15 (Thursday). Over 1,000 awards will be presented to CityU’s top students for their outstanding performance in academia, community services, art, culture, sports and leadership.
Professor David Tong Shuk-yin, Deputy President of CityU, will give the opening address at the ceremony.
Awardees and alumni will share their thoughts and feelings at a media session at
4:30pm.
About the Awardees and alumni:
Sam Li Kwan-ho, Year 2 student in the Department of Economics and Finance, recipient of the Thanksgiving Student Exchange Scholarship
Sam Li has never travelled outside Asia. Through the Scholarship, he was chosen as an exchange student to attend top-tier Carnegie Mellon University for half-a-year. By studying with high-quality students, he has learnt to better appreciate the complexities of a globalized world.
Vivian Chiang Sze-chung, Year 3 student of the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, recipient of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Internship Scholarship
Vivian Chiang wants to understand more about the development of China. Thanks to the Internship Scholarship, she spent last summer at China Central Television (CCTV) in Beijing working as a sub-editor. Her helpful colleagues and other students she met made
the experience a memorable one.
Dr Vanessa Liu Shun-wah (alumni), Assistant Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology
Dr Liu has been awarded a lot of scholarships including the prestigious Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship and Fellowship. Before she won these scholarships; Dr Liu had to take up part-time jobs, working up to eight hours a day to cover tuition fees and expenses.
