CityU confers Honorary Fellowships on four distinguished persons

Four distinguished persons were conferred the title of Honorary Fellow of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, and service to, the University and the community.

The distinguished persons are:

  • Professor Albert Ip Yuk-keung, Chairman of the World Green Organisation;
  • Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman and Founder of Brilliant International Group Limited;
  • Mr Wong Ming-yam, SBS, BBS, JP, Founding Director of InnoLink Investments Limited; and
  • Mr Johnny Yeung Chi-hung, MH, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fujikon Industrial Holdings Limited.

Officiating at the ceremony, held on 24 September, were Dr Chung Shui-ming, Pro-Chancellor, Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman, and Professor Way Kuo, University President.

In his address, Mr Huang thanked the Honorary Fellows for their contributions to CityU and society. “These four prominent leaders are highly regarded in their respective professional fields. They are all enthusiastic about serving the community and have a deep friendship with CityU. Their staunch support over the years has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the University,” he said.

Mr Huang reflected on the CityU’s successes, including its academic excellence and new initiatives, such as HK Tech 300 and HK TECH Tigers. “The great achievements attained by the University are a result of the dedication of all CityU members and the support of various sectors of the community. I would like to welcome again this year’s Honorary Fellows to join the big family of CityU,” he said.

Dr Shi addressed the assembly on behalf of the Honorary Fellows. “We identify with the educational mission of CityU. For this reason, we support the development of the University from our heart.” Although Hong Kong has faced acute challenges in recent years, he said he believes Hong Kong will ride out the present adversity because of the strong resolve of its people. “Let us work together with CityU towards the goal of promoting the development of Hong Kong higher education and society,” he concluded.
