Naming of Mr and Mrs Lau Tat Chuen Lecture Theatre
Lecture Theatre 5 in the Yeung Kin Man Academic Building at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has been named “Mr and Mrs Lau Tat Chuen Lecture Theatre” in appreciation of the support and generous donations given by Mr and Mrs Lau to CityU.
Mr Lau Tat-chuen is the Director of Sino International Industrial (Group) HK Limited. Over the years, Mr Lau has made generous donations and given considerable support to education and the development of the community. Mr Lau is also the Honorary President of the CityU Foundation. His generous support will boost the University’s development; the “Community Nurses – Satellite Distribution” pilot project launched by the Department of Management Sciences; and an international exchange scholarship fund.
A naming ceremony held on 12 January was attended by Mr and Mrs Lau and his family and friends; Mr Ng Leung-ho, Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Associations; Mr Lam Kwong-siu, Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Associations; Professor Way Kuo, CityU President; Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Provost of CityU; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration), Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff; and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations).
In his welcome remarks, Professor Kuo thanked Mr Lau for his generous gift. He said that support from stakeholders had played a major role in shaping the rapid development of CityU in recent years and enabling our outstanding performance in international rankings.
Mr Lau praised CityU for being young and energetic, and its outstanding performance. He said that he hoped CityU would continue to nurture talent and contribute to society.
The Mr and Mrs Lau Tat Chuen Lecture Theatre can accommodate 200 people. It is equipped with advanced audio settings and can be used for lectures, seminars, international conferences and academic events.
