Law expert discusses private law challenges

Legal expert Professor Hugh Collins delivered the latest installment in the City University of Hong Kong Distinguished Lecture Series on 28 March with a talk titled “Private Law and Fundamental Rights”.

In the lecture, Professor Collins said jurisdictions courts had been permitting arguments based upon fundamental rights to influence the reasoning and outcomes of litigation between private parties, thus challenging the private law by inserting fundamental rights into its rules and principles.

Professor Collins is the Vinerian Professor of English Law at All Souls College at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of the British Academy. He was Professor of English Law and Head of the Department of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
