Scholars exchange views on universal suffrage

More than 20 speakers shared their insights on “Universal Suffrage for the Election of the Chief Executive: 2017 and Beyond” at a conference held by the School of Law at City University of Hong Kong on 20 September.
The aim of the conference was to provide an academic platform to discuss legal issues relating to universal suffrage for the election of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR.
Themes of the conference included the role of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and the reform of the political system of the HKSAR; universal suffrage for the election of the Chief Executive and the development of the political system; mechanisms and principles of universal suffrage for the election of the Chief Executive; design and institutional arrangement of the electoral system of the Chief Executive.
