Five teams comprising 15 students from the Department of Computer Science of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) beat other seven universities from Hong Kong and Macau, and won the Champion University Award at “IBM Inter-University Programming Contest”.

The contest aims at helping students to utilise foundational programming skills to solve real world problems. Competing teams have to finish 15 multiple choice questions, and apply five software tools to build a mock-up school portal, where students can access their personal academic profile, view faculty and course descriptions, register for courses, and manage their schedules.

Two other CityU teams won the runner-up and 2nd runner-up awards out of 33 competiting teams.
