Global festival raises students’ cross-cultural awareness

Throwing oranges would generally be deemed rude but when you participate in the Orange Throwing Festival in Italy, ladies are allowed to throw oranges at men to get their attention. This was just one of the interesting folklore events at the "Global Festival of Folklore 2010" staged by the International Exchange Programme, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at City University of Hong Kong on 14 January.

With games and decorated booths designed by local, mainland and international students, the "Global Festival of Folklore 2010" showcased a variety of unique and traditional folklore from countries such as Finland, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, UK, US and China.

Students had the opportunity to learn about other cultures and the customs of different countries.
