Families and friends gathered at CityU on 27 March to share the joy of 13 graduates of the
Doctor of Education (EdD) and
Master of Education (MEd) programmes jointly offered by CityU’s
School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) and the Graduate School of Education,
University of Bristol.
To mark the success of the ten-year collaboration between the two institutions, Professor Eric Thomas, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Bristol (UoB), came to Hong Kong to meet the students and celebrate the success of the graduates. “The two programmes are top Doctorate and Master’s degrees which have successfully contributed to the career development of graduates and helped keep our links to Hong Kong,” Professor Thomas said.
Professor Rosmund Sutherland, Head of Bristol’s Graduate School of Education, encouraged graduates to contribute to the community. “The value of education is to serve the community which is the visible product of your study,” she remarked. During her stay in Hong Kong, Professor Sutherland gave a lecture entitled “Learning with new technology” to the students of the Doctor of Education programme.
“The two joint programmes are very successful and beneficial to participants,” said Mr Charles Wong, Director of SCOPE. “The collaboration enables us to learn and apply the University of Bristol’s professionalism on the Hong Kong education scene,” he added.
The UB, recognized internationally for its excellence in teaching and research, has been ranked first in education by the
UK Times. SCOPE anticipates further collaboration with UB and discussion is in progress for a health-related programme.”
