電子工程學系許樹源講座教授領導的研究小組在電子鎮流器的研究上取得了重大突破，令電燈達到省電與護目的雙重成效。該項研究更於2002年11月獲得美國的專利權。
城大三位優秀工科生憑出色的研究論文，奪得2002度電子及電機工程師學會(IEEE)香港分會學生論文比賽的獎項，獲頒獎狀及現金獎。
