SLC: more than leadership

Casey Chow

Students from eight local tertiary institutions explored and sharpened their leadership skills through seminars, forums and workshops at the Student Leadership Conference 2001. But there was more to the conference than learning the qualities of leadership.

For example, an auction called "In Search of Self" tested the goals of students, who used money to buy the most important components in their lives, such as lifelong learning opportunities or true love. After the auction, students discussed their choices in a sharing session. Group activities at the conference were divided into areas such as: "Task Management", "In Search of Self", "Collaborative Problem-solving", "Coping with Challenges" and "Self- reflection".

"The conference gave me the chance to meet different people and it brought inspiration to my life," said Bosco, who is studying Law at CityU. According to Bosco, the auction and discussion gave him new insights into the meaning of love.

Monica, a first-year student in the BBA in Service Operations Management, said the conference helped her learn about herself, and reminded her that there is a correct way to live.
