City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) proudly presents CityUHK Ice Cream, made with fresh milk produced at CityUHK’s dairy farm in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po. The ice cream is now available at the CityUHK Milk Product Counter.

The CityUHK Ice Cream collection features a selection of six exceptional flavours, including five regular flavours – Milk, Sesame, Hojicha, Yuzu and Chocolate – and one rotating flavour, starting with Strawberry. From classic favourites to innovative creations, each flavour offers a truly unique experience that will spark joy and surprise.

Officiating at the launch ceremony were Professor Vanessa Barrs, Dean of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC), and CityUHK staff and students. Taking place on Valentine's Day, it added an extra touch of sweetness to the occasion.

“We are delighted to see the fruition of our farm-to-table concept in CityUHK Ice Cream. Our Farm is a showcase for sustainable agriculture. So it is truly pleasing to witness how our Farm’s resources have been transformed into delicious ice cream, while enriching our students’ understanding of sustainable food production and food safety,” said Professor Barrs.

CityUHK is the first university in Hong Kong to introduce and practice the concept of One Health, which recognises that the health of people, animals and the environment are inextricably intertwined. Like CityUHK Milk launched last year, CityUHK Ice Cream is a by-product of the University Farm, which since November 2022 has been primarily a training centre for students in CityUHK’s Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme. The BVM students gain essential learning opportunities and hands-on experiences at the Farm in animal handling, veterinary examination, animal welfare and husbandry, farm management, and food production and safety under the pioneering concept of One Health.

In September 2023, the six-year BVM programme received dual accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the UK and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, becoming the only BVM programme in Asia accredited by two of the world’s major regulatory bodies for veterinary education.

After the ceremony, tasty ice cream is distributed to the CityUHK community on a first-come, first-served basis for everyone to enjoy and try.
