Congratulations to Anson Ho Kwan-kit, a student-athlete at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and his partner Doo Hoi-kem on winning a bronze medal in the table tennis mixed doubles at the Chengdu 2023 FISU World University Games on 3 August.

Professor Freddy Boey Yin Chiang, CityU President, commended Anson on his outstanding performance for Hong Kong and encouraged all CityU student-athletes to continue their strenuous efforts pursuing excellence in both sports and academic programmes through inspirational, interactive and innovative learning.

Anson has received rigourous training from a provincial team in mainland China, and is now a member of the Hong Kong table tennis team. He has won the championship in the Men’s Singles in the ITTF World Tour Philippines Open in 2014 and played at two Olympic Games and other international competitions. He was admitted to CityU’s Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences through the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission (SALSA) Scheme in 2022/23, studying courses on social issues, social services and introductory psychology to help him acquire new knowledge and broaden his vision.

CityU has helped the more than 1,200 student-athletes admitted since the scheme was established in 1997 to achieve their best in academic studies and sports through various kinds of support and flexible learning arrangements, such as videoed lectures and recruiting Student Learning Advisors.
