CityU Council Chairman leads delegation to visit Dongguan

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Council Chairman Mr Lester Garson Huang led a delegation to visit Dongguan between 2 and 3 March and met Mr Xiao Yafei, Secretary of the CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee, to exchange views on expediting the development of CityU (Dongguan) and how CityU can further cooperate with Dongguan on education and technology development.

Members of the CityU delegation included Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration), Dr Kevin Downing, Secretary to Council, and Professor Julie Li Juan, Associate Provost (Academic Affairs). Representatives from Dongguan included Mr Liu Wei, Deputy Secretary of CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Songshan Lake High-tech Development Zone, Mr Zheng Guohong, Deputy Director of Dongguan Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, Director of University Preparation Office of Dongguan Municipal Government, Ms Li Jun, Vice Mayor of Dongguan Municipal Government, and Professor Ma Hongwei, President of Dongguan University of Technology.

Mr Huang expressed his gratitude to the Dongguan Municipal Committee and the Dongguan Municipal Government for their continuous support for the CityU (Dongguan) Project. He said that CityU will give full play to its strengths in research and teaching to develop CityU (Dongguan) to a world-class university standard through collaboration on the CityU (Dongguan) Project in terms of nurturing talent, and promoting innovation and technology, and industry transformation and upgrading.

The CityU delegation also visited the CityU (Dongguan) phase one campus construction site, the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, and the Dongguan City Planning Exhibition Gallery to learn about Dongguan’s education, technology, and research and development in recent years.
