CityU stalwarts honoured in 2020 Honours List

Several members of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) community have been named on the 2020 Honours List in recognition of their substantial contributions to Hong Kong or for their dedicated public and community service.

Dr the Honourable Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBS, JP, a recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Social Science in 2015, has been awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the community over the years. Dr Chan, President of Asia Financial Holdings Limited and Chairman of Asia Insurance Company Limited, is an active participant in public service. He is a deputy to the National People’s Congress of China, a Non-Official Member of Hong Kong’s Executive Council, and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. Dr Chan was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2006.

Dr Leung Pak-yin, JP, Council member, has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in recognition of his exceptional dedication to the public healthcare sector in Hong Kong. Dr Leung has made remarkable achievements in combating outbreaks of infectious diseases and handling public health incidents.

Mr Vincent Wong Yin-shun, Court member, has been awarded the Medal of Honour in recognition of his invaluable community service in Tsuen Wan District.

CityU alumni Dr Yuen Pak-leung and Mr Anthony Lam Sai-ho received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service for their outstanding work in the fight against Covid-19.

Mr Rex Wong Siu-han, Court member, and Dr Yip Chung-yin, Convenor of the CityU Industrial and Business Leaders Circle, have been appointed Justices of the Peace.
