Three delegates from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) have learned about the top-notch teaching and research facilities and the remarkable progress of City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology), and Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff of CityU, welcomed the delegates during the campus visit on 21 June. The delegation comprised Professor Yang Wei, President of NSFC and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Mr Zou Liyao and Mr Wang Wenze, respectively Director and Deputy-Director of NSFC’s Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.

Professor Lu briefed delegates on the latest progress of CityU during the visit, adding that CityU was ranked the 3rd best university in Hong Kong according to the latest QS Asia University Ranking.

The delegates then toured the 3D Atom Probe Facility Laboratory, CLP Power Low Carbon Energy Education Centre and the Centre for Advanced Structural Materials. They were impressed by the advanced teaching and research facilities of CityU.

Last year the NSFC awarded more than RMB11.5 million (HK$13.5 million) to 25 CityU research projects, ranking CityU 1st among universities in Hong Kong in terms of competitive funding from NSFC in 2015.
