Around 50 participants from City University of Hong Kong (CityU), including former CityU students residing in Xian, reunited with fellow alumni and celebrated the CityU Marathon Delegation participating in the China Xian International Marathon 2015 in Xian on 7 November.

The event “CityU Alumni Reunion @ Xian cum Celebration for CityU Marathon Delegation” was organised by the Alumni Relations Office (ARO). CityU Convocation was the event partner.

University representatives in attendance included Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and University Distinguished Professor; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations); and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development & Alumni Relations).

Professor Kuo shared with participants the latest development and achievements of CityU at the reunion dinner.

“CityU has been ranked 57th in the latest QS World University Rankings. The QS results affirm our consistently strong performances over recent years and indicate that the University is leading the world in several academic disciplines,” he said.

In addition, members of the CityU Marathon Delegation shared their running experiences. The delegation, comprising 25 top alumni, staff and student runners, ran in three race categories: 5K, 13.7K and the half-marathon held on the same day. It was the first time that the CityU community members had raced in the Xian Marathon under the lead of the President, who ran the 5K race.

Alumnae Ms Ng Man-wai and Ms Poon Hoi-lam got the 4th and 5th place respectively in the women’s 13.7K race; and alumnus Mr Yim Chi-keung came 19th in the half-marathon.

Among the guests were also Professor Jia Mingde, Vice-President of the Northwest University, Professor Zheng Qinghua, Vice-President of the Xi’an Jiaotong University.
