Melodies of joy and peace at CityU concert

Christmas joy came early to City University of Hong Kong (CityU) at a concert organised by Student Development Services (SDS) and the Cultural and Sports Committee in the evening of 4 December.

Over 400 faculty, staff and students enjoyed the Christmas concert titled “Melodies of Joy and Peace” held at Wong Cheung Lo Hui Yuet Hall on the 5th floor of Academic 3.

Guests attending included Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), and Dr Raymond Chan Kwok-hong, Dean of Students.

For the first time performing together in a concert, the CityU Chinese Orchestra, CityU Choir, CityU Philharmonic Orchestra, CityU Concert Singers, and CityU SU Christian Choir enriched the concert with a variety of songs and music. One of the highlights at the concert was the performance by the acclaimed voice actor, Mr Zhang Miaoyang.

In addition, our in-house tenor, Dr Wong Chi-tim, Director of SDS, sang the aria “Nessun dorma!” from the Italian opera Turandot and, in a duet with Mr Petrus Cheung Kin-wah, the famous Baritone soloist, sang “Au fond du temple saint” from the French opera Les pêcheurs de perles.

A joyful and enthusiastic chorus of “We wish you a Merry X’mas” by the performers and the audience brought the evening to a delightful end at 10pm.
