In commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and to share with industrial partners the achievements of its alumni, the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) held a dinner reception on 28 April.

Speaking to more than 350 guests, Professor Chan Chi-hou, Dean of CSE, thanked the industrial partners and alumni for their continued support in terms of scholarship, donations and placement opportunities over the years.

"I would like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way on the path to where we are today. From humble beginnings 25 years ago, we sowed the seeds of development,” Professor Chan said. “As the years progress, we will continue to plant these seeds, and nourish them. I may not know what the next harvest will bring but I can guarantee that the fruits of our labour will be amazing to behold.”

The highlight of the dinner was the presentation of the CSE Alumni Achievement Award by the University President, Professor Way Kuo. Mr Jonathan Chan Pok-chi, 2003 graduate of the Department of Computer Science and the Founder and Managing Director of Accolade Consultants (International) Company Limited, won the 2008 award. The award recognised his outstanding professional achievements, significant contributions to CityU, and involvement in community services.

The event also saw the presentation of the Faculty Medal 2008 to Ms Lucy Jiang Yihong, in recognition of her academic excellence and all-round personal qualities. Before graduating from the Department of Electronic Engineering in 2008, Lucy had been placed on the Dean’s List five times throughout her three-year undergraduate course.

The dinner also marked the inauguration of the CSE Internship Alumni Association. Mr Fred Wu Wan-fat, the newly elected president of the association, said, “We have benefited greatly from the placement internship scheme offered by CSE. We believe that with our internship experience, we can offer help to the junior students and this network will contribute to our College and CityU.”
