Rooftop collapse incident

To editors:

The rooftop of one of the sports halls in the Sports Centre at CityU collapsed this afternoon at around 2:30pm. It is understood that two members of CityU staff have been hurt and a third individual is in shock. All were conscious when they were sent to the hospital for treatment. To the best of our knowledge at this time, no other persons were trapped inside the hall and the prime focus now is to ensure that the facility is safe. The University is extremely concerned about the incident and would like to send our best wishes to the injured staff for a speedy recovery.

Professor Way Kuo, University President, has immediately set up a three-member team to handle and assist the emergency services, as well as to investigate the incident. The team members are: Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration), Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Students Affairs) and Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff.

Professor Kuo was outside of Hong Kong on a duty visit and is on his way back to CityU.
