Winning teams of HK Underwater Robot Challenge 2007

to compete in international contest in Canada

 

Three winning teams of Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge 2007, jointly organized and held in April by WWF and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), will represent Hong Kong at the International Underwater Robot Challenge in Canada, competing with winning teams from regional contests in the United States, Canada, Scotland, Iran and India.

 

The International Underwater Robot Challenge will be held at the Marine Institute and the Institute for Ocean Technology, Memorial University, Newfoundland, from 22 June to 24 June. The CityU team, the champion of the university/college group in the Hong Kong contest, will compete in the EXPLORER class with 19 other university/college teams. Teams from the HKTA Yuen Yuen Institute No. 2 Secondary School, champion of the secondary school group, and the Methodist Church Hong Kong Wesley College, second runner-up, will compete in the RANGER class with 21 other secondary/high school teams.

 

In recognition of the International Polar Year in 2007, the competition will highlight polar regions and reflect the challenges that scientists and engineers face working there.

 

The teams will fly to Canada thanks to generous sponsorship from Air Canada and Oasis Airlines, valued at HK$60,000 and HK$40,000 respectively. CityU has also sponsored HK$60,000 for the airfares of the CityU team.
