CityUHK ranks number 1 in Asia and Hong Kong respectively for ‘Industry’ and ‘International Outlook’ in THE Asia University Rankings 2025.

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) retains its top 20 position, ranking 16th in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings. The University achieved the top position in Asia in the “Industry” indicator with a perfect score. Additionally, CityUHK is ranked 1st in Hong Kong for both the “Industry” and “International Outlook” indicators.

The 2025 THE Asia University Rankings cover a total of 853 universities from 35 Asian countries or regions. CityUHK continues to excel in various evaluation indicators, including "Industry", "International Outlook", and "Research Quality", maintaining a leading position in the overall rankings. THE ranks Asian universities based on five indicators: "Industry", "International Outlook", "Research Quality", "Research Environment," and "Teaching", while CityUHK is one of two universities in Hong Kong ranked within the top 30 in Asia for all five indicators, reflecting its strength in teaching, research, and internationalisation in the region, with achievements recognised internationally.

“CityUHK’s teaching and research quality is progressing continuously, maintaining a leading global position in promoting internationalised education. Recently, CityUHK achieved the remarkable distinction of being named the THE ‘Most International University in the World’ for the second consecutive year,” Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, said. “CityUHK will continue to lead the development and internationalisation of higher education, strengthening Hong Kong's position as a hub for higher education in Asia and internationally."

The University has seen robust development in recent years, with its continually growing global influence. CityUHK is ranked in the top 30 in Asia in THE's World Reputation Rankings 2025 and has been invited to join the THE World 100 Reputation Network Management Committee, serving as the only Asian representative.

Professor Shirley Chong, Director of Communications and Institutional Research of CityUHK, was invited to attend the THE Asia Universities Summit held at Macau University of Science and Technology on 24 April. She delivered a keynote speech on "The significance of branding and reputation for Asian universities", sharing CityUHK's recent achievements and experiences with senior administrators from higher education institutions worldwide. Professor Chong stated that as one of the young universities in the region, CityUHK is actively expanding partnerships with universities worldwide, especially within Asia, to enhance mutual academic and research collaboration.

Committed to fostering an internationally diverse learning environment by providing opportunities for faculty and students from various countries and regions to explore the world, CityUHK recently launched the most extensive global research collaboration programme in Asia with the University of Cambridge. This partnership will promote global academic research exchange and talent mobility.

Moreover, nearly 210 scholars from CityUHK were named among the “World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists”. Compared to the overall number of teaching and research staff at the University, the proportion of top scientists is highest in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, 32 CityUHK scholars were named “Highly Cited Researchers 2024” by Clarivate. Calculated as a proportion of the University’s overall faculty and research staff, the number of CityUHK scholars selected has been ranked 1st in Hong Kong for nine consecutive years, demonstrating the high international recognition of their research achievements.
