The Inauguration Ceremony of the Third Steering Committee of the CityU Industrial and Business Leaders Circle (Leaders Circle) was successfully held on 4 May.

Established in 2016 and celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the Leaders Circle strives to strengthen communication and collaboration between City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and industry and business leaders, and solicit support for University’s long-term development.

The ceremony was officiated by Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), on behalf of President Way Kuo; and Dr Daniel Yip Chung-yin, Convenor of the Third Steering Committee. They were joined by Mr Anthony Lam Sai-ho, Mr Eric Chow Yik-cheung, Mr Kyran Sze, Mr Douglas Chan Lap-tak, Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun, Mr Benjamin Kwok Chan-yiu, Mr Steve Chuang Tzu-hsiung, and Mr Lau Tat-chuen, all of whom are Steering Committee members, to launch the inauguration ceremony.

In his welcoming speech, Professor Lee expressed his gratitude to Convenor Dr Yip, all Steering Committee members, Honorary Presidents, and other members for their staunch support and generous donation to the University and the Leaders Circle.

“With your support and concerted effort, I believe the Leaders Circle will continue to serve as an effective platform to connect CityU with the industry and business sectors. Prominent research outcomes at the University can be industrialised for social and economic advancement through the resources, experiences and networks brought about by the Leaders Circle,” he said.

Dr Yip in his address encouraged active collaboration between the industry and business sectors and CityU.

“By organising various types of activities and programmes, the Leaders Circle brings together stakeholders from different sectors to exchange experiences, the latest industry information and innovative technologies. CityU strives to nurture creative young leaders to address the demand for talent and skills in professional industries,” he said. “I urge industry and business leaders to offer diversified opportunities for these visionary young people to unleash their full potential.”

At the ceremony, Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Vice-President (Research and Technology), introduced the large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme, HK Tech 300 which supports aspiring entrepreneurs to launch start-ups and ignite their entrepreneurship journey, through an extensive network of partners with industry heavyweights.

Guests were also introduced to other institutional strategic initiatives including the “United, We Soar” capital campaign and the CityU anthem.

Other guests attending the ceremony included Dr Warren Ma Kai-yum, Ms Ella Cheong Shuk-ki, Mr Simon Chung, all of whom are new Honorary Presidents of the Leaders Circle, Professor Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Professor Richard Yuen Kwok-kit, Chief-of-staff, Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations), and members of the Leaders Circle.
