Celebration for sports success

An annual prize presentation ceremony cum dinner at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 23 May celebrated the outstanding achievements of CityU’s student athletes.
The ceremony cum dinner was attended by officiating guests Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, Chairman of CityU Council; Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs); and Dr Raymond Chan Kwok-hong, Dean of Students. More than 100 athletes and staff members attended, too.
The CityU sports teams achieved impressive results in the annual University Sports Federation of Hong Kong (USFHK) competitions. They won the men’s overall championship and were the 1st runners-up in the women’s overall championship. In addition, CityU athletes won the overall championship in three events, the men’s championship in eight events, and the women’s championship in four events.
Grace Lau Mo-sheung, a Year 3 student in the School of Creative Media who is ranked 20th in the world in the individual female category of Karate Kata, was named the USFHK Sportswoman of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Scholarships such as the Mr Herman Hu Outstanding Student Athletes Awards, HK Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce Ltd Elite Athlete Scholarships, Dr Lam Kwok Pun Memorial Scholarships for Outstanding Athletes, Professor Paul Chu Swimming Awards, and scholarships from the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering and the Student Development Services, among others, were presented at the ceremony.
Awards were presented to students during the ceremony, too. These prizes included Student Athletes Academic Merit Award, Gold Medal Coach Award, Trainer Merit Award, Most Valuable Athlete Award, Most Dedicated Athlete Award, and Most Progressive Athlete Award.
