City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has joined the Connect4Climate (C4C), an international coalition on climate change, to share knowledge, raise awareness and encourage action against climate change.

Launched by the World Bank, the Italian Ministry of Environment, and the Global Environment Facility in collaboration with over 140 global partners in 2011, C4C is a global partnership programme dedicated to climate change communications. CityU is the first university in Hong Kong to join C4C.

“The partnership demonstrates CityU’s commitment to creating and disseminating new knowledge for addressing climate change, and work with the relevant parties and community stakeholders on the challenges,” said Professor Way Kuo, CityU President.

Ms Tina Taheri Moayed, the Resident Representative of the World Bank Group in Hong Kong, announced the partnership with CityU on 23 October at a luncheon during CityU’s “Sustainability Summit —Pathways to a sustainable Hong Kong”.

Ms Moayed also introduced the engagement activities of C4C, which are aligned with the World Bank’s sustainable development efforts, to the CityU community at the same event.

Through social media and the web, C4C aims to create a participatory, open knowledge platform that engages the global community in climate change conversations to drive local action through advocacy, operational support, research, and capacity building.
