Professor Way Kuo (7th from left), President of City University of Hong Kong, officiated at the prize presentation ceremony of the 2nd Reading-for-Pleasure Essay Competition on 6 July. In his speech at the ceremony, he encouraged students to read more books, in particular history books, during their spare time.

Professor Kuo said that reading for pleasure is different from reading for course credits. Although reading books required for courses is essential, these are not enough. He added that students should look into extracurricular books based on their interests and expressed the hope that they read more history books as these are the most valuable for broadening their horizons.

The 2nd Reading-for-Pleasure Essay Competition, which was open to all secondary school students, was jointly organised by Ta Kung Pao, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited and Cosmos Books Ltd. About 40 secondary school students won awards in the competition.
