Public seminars spotlight pressing societal issues

Legislative councillors and local scholars discussed controversial topics affecting society at a series of public seminars under the theme “Your City Your Politics”.

The seminars, organised by the Department of Public and Social Administration at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), gave staff, students and the community a platform where they could exchange views about society’s hottest topics.

The Hon Chan Chi-chuen (right), Legislative Council (LegCo) member, talked about sexual orientation discrimination on 13 March; Dr The Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing (middle), President of LegCo, talked about LegCo culture on 18 March; Professor Lui Tai-lok (left), Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Hong Kong, discussed identity issues and conflict between Hong Kong people and mainlanders on 21 March.

The talks generated a great deal of discussion among students, faculty, staff and guests, leading to a lively Q&A session.
