French nuclear expert discusses nuclear safety at CityU

A nuclear expert from France’s leading assessment and research agency in radiological risk discussed the French experience of planning for, and dealing with, nuclear emergencies by making reference to the Fukushima accident at a talk at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

Dr Jean-Christophe Gariel, Deputy Director of the Environment and Emergency Operations Division of the Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) in France, led the IRSN delegation and gave the talk on 8 December.

In response to the need to foster local nuclear experts, CityU will introduce a new interdisciplinary programme on nuclear and risk engineering in 2012.
