Master mathematician receives certificate as CAS academician

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre held an “Awarding Ceremony for the New Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong CAS Members Forum” on 18 May. Three newly elected Hong Kong CAS academicians, including Chair Professor Philippe G Ciarlet (right, insert) from City University of Hong Kong (CityU), received the certificate from Professor Li Jinhai (left, insert), Vice President of CAS. The CAS membership represents professional recognition of their academic achievements. Professor Way Kuo (3rd from right), CityU President, was one of the officiating guests at the ceremony.

Professor Ciarlet delivered a talk titled “East Meets West in Mathematics” to around 200 attendants from various sectors afterwards.
