Admission Requirements

Admission is decided on a competitive basis. To be eligible for admission, you must have the following qualifications:

  • have a Bachelor's degree in communication related areas from a recognized university or equivalent qualification; or
  • have a Bachelor's degree in non-communication-related areas and a minor in communication related areas of studies

Applicants without a major or a minor in communication related areas of studies must have the basic knowledge about media and communication through coursework and an internship in communication related areas for at least three months. Substantive working experience in communication related areas such as a full-time job in a communication related position for at least one year will satisfy the requirement for the basic knowledge about communication.


Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL score 550 (paper-based test) or 59 (revised paper-delivered test) or 79 (internet-based test); or
  • Overall band 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • Score 450 in the new College English Test (CET-6) of Chinese mainland or a pass in the old CET-6 test; or
  • other equivalent qualifications

*TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period.


The programme is open for both local and non-local applicants. Required by the Hong Kong Immigration Department, all non-local students must enroll in full-time study mode (i.e., taking 12 or more credits per semester) and obtain a student visa before coming to Hong Kong. For non-local applicants, you can also refer to the website of the Global Engagement Office to find out about living in Hong Kong and other aspects of student life at the University.



Tuition Fee

Tuition fee is charged on a credit unit basis. The tuition fee for the 2023-24 academic year is HK$6,600 per credit or HK$178,200 for 27 credits.

Fellowship Scheme

UGC Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme

Fellowship awards are available for local students admitted to this programme under the Fellowships Scheme supported by the HKSAR Government. This programme in the priority area of “Creative Industries” is one of the targeted programmes listed under the Fellowships Scheme with 3 fellowship awards. Local students admitted to the programme in 2023/24 academic year will be invited to submit applications for the fellowships. For more details of the Scheme, please refer to UGC website.
