Admission Arrangements and Entrance Requirements

Direct application is the non-JUPAS route for those applicants who do not have Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results, or have those results but also possess other qualifications. As direct applicants are selected based on a variety of qualifications, which may include GCE System, International Baccalaureate, Post-Secondary Study, Non-local/Overseas Qualification, selection is made on an individual basis. Performance in selection interviews, where applicable, is also an important assessment criterion.


Admission to First-Year Studies (Four-Year Curriculum)

Local applicants with secondary qualifications other than HKDSE or post-secondary qualifications are welcome to apply for admissions to the first-year studies in the Department with an undeclared major (Non-JUPAS code: 1106) via the non-JUPAS route. They will enter a major after one year of study.

Admission with Advanced Standing

Final-year students or graduates of an Associate Degree (AD) / Higher Diploma (HD) programme recognized by the University are welcome to apply for senior year admission (Advanced Standing II) to articulate to CityUHK’s Bachelor's degree programmes.

AD / HD graduates who do not receive a senior-year (Advanced Standing II) place, or graduating students or graduates of high school following non-HKDSE curriculum (e.g. IB, GCE)  /  transfer students from local or overseas bachelor’s degree programmes from other universities,  may be considered for Advanced Standing I admission.
The minimum graduation requirements are:
  • 91 credit units for Advanced Standing I students
  • 66 credit units for Advanced Standing II students
Please note that senior-year admission (Advanced Standing II) is only available to local students.

Direct/non-JUPAS applicants considered for Advanced Standing II admission are expected to have the following qualifications:


BA Media and Communication (BAMDCM) Admission code: 1341A

  • An associate degree, a higher diploma, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution, and
  • A CGPA of at least 3.0 at higher diploma or associate degree level, and
  • Attained at least Level 3 or above in HKDSE English Language and Chinese Language or equivalent qualification

BA Digital Television and Broadcasting (BATVB) Admission code: 1356A

  • An associate degree, a higher diploma, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution, and
  • A CGPA of at least 3.0 at higher diploma or associate degree level
