Department of Media and Communication Center for Communication Research

Introduction

The department is very active in research. Staff members are currently engaged in a wide spectrum of individual and project-based work, ranging from computer mediated communication, media globalization, political economy of communication, journalism and public opinion, media law and privacy, Internet advertising, to the study of mass media and foreign policy. The research results are published in journals and books.

In addition, the Center for Communication Research was established by the Faculty in 2005. The Center is conducting two major comparative research projects:

  • a huge survey investigation on the relationship between media and globalization in six Chinese cities, and
  • elite media discourses on globalization from China, India, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The Center also holds conferences and seminars, hosts visiting scholars, and produces publications.
