Asian Health Scholars Visit CityUHK COM for Cross-Disciplinary Exchange

On 11 August 2026, eleven health scholars and medical professionals from Mainland China and Malaysia, with backgrounds in public health, environmental science, and geriatric medicine, visited the Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) to explore how digital health communication can improve community adoption of health technologies, bringing together COM's expertise in digital health communication with the visiting scholars' work on disease prevention, environmental health, and clinical medicine.

The meeting began with COM faculty introducing the department's profile and its research strengths in health communication, including work on user-centered gerontechnology design (technology for healthy aging), gamification strategies for older adults' physical and cognitive health, and the social dynamics of digital health information dissemination.
The visiting scholars then shared their expertise in One Health research, an interdisciplinary framework that integrates human, animal, and environmental health to address complex public health challenges. The two sides concluded with a discussion on potential future collaborations, highlighting the critical role of health communication in promoting community adoption of new medical technologies and treatments.
COM Chair Professor Yi-Hui Christine Huang and Shuhua Zhou, Associate Professor Edmund Lee, Assistant Professor Vincent Wang also participated in this productive meeting with these health experts. After the meeting, the guests were given a tour of our advanced teaching facilities, including the Omnimedia Digital Newsroom, 3-D Virtual TV Studio, and Advertising Design & Shooting Studio.
