COM Postdoctoral Fellow Huanyu Bao Archive Garmin Health X Fitrockr Research Grant 2026

The Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is delighted to announce that Dr. Huanyu Bao, a Postdoctoral Fellow in COM, has received the esteemed Garmin Health X Fitrockr Research Grant 2026.This competitive program supports innovative, wearable-based health data research across Asia. A joint initiative by Garmin Health and Fitrockr, the grant provides selected researchers with advanced smartwatches, high-performance health data infrastructure, and comprehensive ecosystem support to push the boundaries of wearable technology applications.

Dr. Bao’s project, titled "AI-driven Data Sonification as Therapeutic Intervention and Digital Heritage for Palliative Patients," focuses on individuals in their end-of-life stage, a critical and growing area of public health concern in the region.  This award highlights the Department of Communication and Media’s burgeoning strength in industry-collaborative research. By bridging academic inquiry with real-world technology partnerships, the project reflects the department's commitment to fostering interdisciplinary work at the intersection of communication, health, and digital innovation.
